Ok, folks. I'm a 10 year military veteran looking to make an honest living...this is my first truck, so I cannot go crazy on the budget. However, I can't afford to be sitting along side the highway non-op either. Anyone have(or know someone else who has) a strong runner, that won't give me any problems for a couple years or so? Looks aren't that important. I appreciate all your assistance in advance....

Used Schneider trucks run in that ball park. Then check truck paper, eBay, craigslist.
-
What do you plan on doing with the truck? If you lease to a carrier many of them will have an age requirement for the truck. If age is not an issue, you should be looking for an '03 or older truck with a Detroit engine that is aerodynamic. These trucks consistently get great fuel mileage and parts are much cheaper. Fuel will be your biggest expense and your business success will depend on getting 7+ mpg and not 5 or 6 mpg.
-
Why do you say that. You can make money at 5 mpg if the rate if justifiable. But on the other note, pre 03 is the way to go as said and Detroit for economy and economics. However, a cat will be just as good. A freightliner will be the choice because it is cheaper and more common. Just search truckpaper and you will find some trucks.

At that price it will nickel and dime you to death....................................
