Did you know that an edged weapon is actually more dangerous than a gun? When I worked armed security I had to watch police training video's, one was on edged weapons. In close quarters you can charge and stab someone up to 3 times before they can get a shot off. So, as long as the perpetrator is within 15-20 feet (according to the research), a knife can win a gunfight. Most perpetrators are within 5 feet at the time of the attempted crime. Who needs a gun?

Personal feelings aside, it is legal to have a gun in a CMV.
I am not debating anyone on whether it's right or wrong; all I wanted to do was to put the correct information out there.

It is NOT illegal to carry a weapon in a CMV. So long as your have a carry permit for each state you travel through.

Granted most carriers do not permit it!

You do not have to have a carry permit for each state you travel through.
Again, here's the info:
It is LEGAL to carry a firearm in a CMV...it may be frowned on but it is certainly legal.
For anyone that wants proof here are some phone numbers to verify the information for yourself:

For those of you with Sirius Radio, Cam & Company is on channel 144. Listen to them and/or give them a call and ask at 866-NRA-NEWS. They are on 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. CST. It is their job to know the current laws.

The DOT told me though if you do carry a firearm, you must abide by the state/local laws. However, if you are driving through a state that has a law against firearms in the vehicle you are exempt if your state of origin and state of destination both allow firearms in vehicles. I am not certain, but I think the law on that is Safe Harbor.
But certainly you should abide by company policy or risk losing your job.

Maybe I need to explain better-

I can TRANSPORT my pistol from here to Florida without a permit so long as the gun is secure and unloaded without a permit.

I cannot CARRY (on person) my pistol in any state other than the state I have a permit to do so.

Having a firearm in the cab of a CMV without a permit for that state would be a violation of 99.99% of local and state laws. The weapon can be in the cab if secured/locked and out of wingspan and ammo seperate- preferebly the side tool box.

The firearm does not have to be unloaded and secured unless the state of orgin and state of destination have laws requiring it.
To carry it on your person is certainly different than having it in your vehicle. Some states require a concealed weapon permit, some don't. There are states that actually say you can't conceal it, it must be worn openly, and some say it can be worn openly or concealed. If you are licensed to carry in one state, the state you are in must acknowledge your states laws though or you can be in violation.
It always advised to know the laws for the state you are in.

Here's a heads up for CT then- Don't carry, transport or have a loaded weapon in your vehicle or within wingspan unless you have a CT permit to do so. Handguns or long guns.

I would have to read further into it but I do not know of any states having reciprocity laws concerning carry or concealment permits unless you have a Federal Carry Permit- (FBI, CIA etc etc )

I guess I don't understand what is the problem here!

If you work for a Trucking company that says ABSOLUTELY NO Firearms on board...then none of this matters!!

If you work for a Trucking Company that doesn't care....it still don't matter...because if you are carrying and let's say you have a delivery at a place that does not want you in there with a FIREARM in your truck whether it's loaded or not loaded and stuck away in a safe....they know about it....you will NOT get in..that simple!!

Granted.....if they don't search your truck...then you have got it made.

But...if you go to a Prison system with a delivery...they are going to search...and if they find it....you are going to have more trouble then what you want.

YOU are taking your own chances carrying a firearm!
If you want to take those chances then so be it!

I Know the company that I work for will NOT take that chance/risk or whatever you want to call it.

And a CCW will not help ya either.

Ya know what difference does it make? I mean really what are we gonna do now have a bunch of "cowboy" wannabies running up and down the road?

IF a company says no guns, it means just that no guns....how hard is that to understand. WHY do people think they can get around the rules?, hide it, get a special box built into your cab yada yada yada.....

THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IN ADVANCE IF YOU WILL BE MAKING A DELIVERY TO A RECEIVER WHO DOES NOT ALLOW GUNS ON THEIR PROPERTY.........
