I think just about everybody that has tried to argue for or against this probably knows what the correct answers are.

As drivers - you know that the majority of shipper/receivers do not allow firearms on their property.

You also know - Only certain states allow you to carry a concealed weapon in your vehicle.

You also probably know - Many trucking terminals also do not allow firearms on their facilities, and as far as I know, if you are a truck driver, you are probably going to have to drive on to these premises on occasion.

And you definitely know - If you have to go into Canada, there is absolutely no law in the United States that is going to make it legal to take that gun across the border.

I have sit through orientations at driving companies before where some knucklehead wants attention and feels he needs to ask these questions, and without saying guns are not allowed in your truck, the company rep points out these above things.

Something else that would be a good idea to think about. If you do carry a gun, or any other sort of weapon on your truck, it is not a good idea to announce it on a public message board. One thing I do know is that this information can be requested in a court case for the purpose of tracking IP addresses and other personal information.

So - the bottom line is "Dont Do It", but if you do, "don't talk about it".

Yes, you can travel across state lines with a firearm. If you have a legally concealed weapon (having a concealed weapon permit) you can carry in ANY state that recognizes that states laws. Example, I live in Michigan there are over 30 states that recognize Michigans permit. My mother lives in NC. As it sits now, I can drive from my door in MI through OH, KY, TN, and to her door in NC and leave my gun holsterd by my side. all of those states recognize MI's permit. Packing.org will give you all the info you need on this. Not only that. If you dont load the weapon, you are protected under a federal law for legal transport. you can transport an unloaded weapon to, through or from any state in your vehicle.

Now, as far as a class A lic. there is no law stopping you from carrying a pistol in your truck. Its not in the FMC book and nowhere else. the only legal problems you run into would be going to a state that does not recognize your home state's CWP, a military base, or a company that does not allow it. those 3 things would be the only things to stop you. there are 4 states that are no no's when it comes to CWP's. Hawaii, IL, MD, CA, and MA. Most all states have some kind of agreement.

The problem isn't the firearm as much as it's the ammunition. Check your hazmat regs. To carry the firearm, you need hazmat endorsement. To carry ammo for the gun, you need three placards: explosion hazard, fire hazard, projectile hazard. If I remember the regs correctly, just one round of ammo requires all of the above. The rules for carrying ammo (for the gun or transporting ammo as cargo) are more strict than many other hazardous cargos.

You won't find much detailed info on that topic in the FMCSR; you have to read the hazmat regs.

This is also incorrect. The hazmat rules only apply to having ammo as cargo. It does not apply to your legally concealed, loaded weapon. You do not need placards or anything else. Here is the backup on that.

OK. What companies allow you to carry guns in the cab? What about all the places you deliver to that does not allow guns on the property?

No one that I know of allows you to carry in the cab. But thats not the issue here. the issue is weather its a FEDERAL law or not. and it isnt. If you take the chance and carry anyway, thats up to you. sure, you might get grief from your employer but as far as federal law is concerned your golden.

Places that are offlimits do not trump federal law. the only places that fall under it would be government owned places, (mil bases, post offices...etc.) but other than that.....It dont matter.

If you enter a property that does not allow guns and they find out, the worst they can do to you is ask you to leave. there is no law that governs this. As far as having the gun though.. I cant see how anyone would know unless you had to go through a metal detector. they wouldnt know you had a gun anymore than they would know if you had a pocket full of nickles. concealed means concealed.

I believe you are absolutely correct on that. Good, makes me feel better. I know the Florida conceal carry works throughout the hole southeast which is where I want to be.

I don't know about other places but I know from experience that when entering a military instillation or prison grounds you can declare your firearm at the gate and it will be returned to you upon departure.
But if you take it through the gates and get caught you can be in some serious trouble.
