| When was the last time you saw the show cops? Or read about a cop that was shot at only to return fire killing the perp? Police have guns drawn on them on a regular basis in all our big cities. Sure they arrest bad guys and enforce the law. But they also have to sometimes shoot. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't carry guns. As far as your fire dpt analogy, you need to compare apples to apples. Companies dont ban you from carrying a ladder, and you don't use a ladder for self defense. I gotta say you are really reaching on this one. |

| Its a tough deal. I like to carry and have a license to carry. I want to protect myself so that I keep my life but don't want to scarifice a career for it either. I hear about these drop offs at the border towns that are scary. Or carrying loads that are valueable, now you are a bulls-eye for someone to take your load. There is no great answer but it seems to me that pepper spray and maybe a knife is about the best way to defend yourself and still meet company standards. |

| As for companies allowing/not allowing firearms in their trucks, there are many many companies that don't have any policy about it. I think it is a very personal decision to have a firearm...in the home, vehicle, at work, or any where else but not everyone has to have the same opinion. Everyone in this country will never completely on any one thing...fact of life. I thought the point of this thread was to clear up there is no federal law forbidding firearms in a CMV. There are however state laws, city laws, and company policies that should be obeyed.

Comparing apples to apples would be part of the uniform for a cop is a gun. How can you compare a cop to a trucker? Doesn't sound like you are talking about apples to apples here. The fireman bit was to show you what does a trucker need firemans tools for? He doesn't. Nor does he need the cops gear. His job is to deliver the freight. A cop doesn't need a logbook. A trucker doesn't need a gun. If a trucker feels he can't do the job without a weapon maybe he should become a cop.

that former cop said he took a knife defense course through his dpt and he learned a lot. he said he liked it so much he went ahead and took the 2nd level course at his own expense. driverswife: that was the point of this. weather it was legal on a federal level. but it has gone way beyond that. notarp. you dont get it. I am not comparing the cop to a trucker. I am comparing 2 people in a different profession USING THE SAME TOOL. that is apples to apples. The gun is used for defense weather its a cop, trucker, line worker, welder or a ditch digger. Its not the job. its the tool. and thats all a gun is. Its a tool. |

| I get it you don't. Guns and CMV's don't mix.

| I know for sure that I won't be carrying a gun as long as I work for someone else. Once I get my own truck then I will worry about whether I should take the chance in going into a shipper receiver with a gun in the cab. Anyways, its nice to hear different opinions about this topic. Its almost like politics. Can't get two people to agree on the same thing. But its cool. I respect everyone's opinion whether I agree with it or not. |
