| I thought you and I were done? Guess not. when I say people dont get it i mean they dont seem to realize that the world isnt fuzzy blankents and lolipops. Just because you might be middle aged and never been attacked or robbed doesnt mean it wont ever happen. I just like to see people prepared. But if they choose not to then I guess oh well for them. |

Well what exactly is it that I am not getting? That there are various people posting on this board that feel it is in their best interest to carry a gun while they work? How many people carry a gun to work that are in factories, offices, daycare centers or hospitals? It makes no sense, sets you the person with the gun up for LOTS of trouble if you ever use the darn thing, sounds to me like another "supertrucker" gotta have, just like the chrome all over, big belt buckle, cowboy hat with a pheasant butt plastered on the front of it and a chain drive wallet to match....and the ego/loud mouth to go with it. I DO not live a sheltered life, I use COMMONS SENSE when I go out at night, and I DO HAVE LOTS OF GUNS IN MY HOME, people need to get over "billy bad butt trucker" ego trip, do their jobs, use common sense and get over it already.

| Its that scared rabbit mentality that allows people to become victims. "oh, dont use your gun..you might get into trouble". Then I guess its more important to be dead than try to defend yourself? As far as those places you mentioned... Yes I know people personally that carry firearms in those places. when I was in the mortgage business I carried a gun everyday. I carried to customer homes and meetings. did I ever need it? Nope. And I hope I never do. but you know, I hopeI dont need a spare tire but I still carry it just in case. example, the daycare for instance. There was a recent shooting in a daycare here in Michigan. I wonder if the guy checked the law before he came in and killed all those people? I doubt it. You speak about common sense, yet you dont feel any need to protect yourself. that is something I dont understand. Is the world out to get me? no. I just wanna be prepared when (if) something does happen. |

| Luv Ever been to the COlumbia State Farmers market in Columbia, SC? There are places in this country that have high crime where a driver better seriously watch himself- same with private individuals. Demographics will give you an idea of them crime stats and if you look at crime stats, it will tell you if you are likely to help yourself by carryign a piece. I agree with the other poster- I'd rather explain why I shot the thug with the gun or knife to the police than for my family to go casket shopping. Stuff happens. NO need to be Mr. Macho with the fancey clothes- how about silent and professional about it and never let anyone know you have it unless in the rare case you need it? HOw about being trained and comfortable with it? If all truckers who could qualify could be deputized across the country, it'd be a safer country. Do you remember the fellow that got pulled out his cab and nearly beat to death in L.A. when they rioted? Now what if he had shot the first one who came to the truck with a pipe with .45? Would they have still nearly killed him- I don't think so. WOuld that have been better? I'd say yes. Would the rest have scattered of fought this man like savages? I say they'd have scattered. Criminals have guns, period. Why not even the playing field if you have the desire and the capability?

| Man it just keeps going and going on... It is not a question of dead or alive love guns or hate guns... It is the BIGGER question what happens TO you if DOT where to FIND a gun in you truck or on you without a right to carry license ... You get caught with a gun in your truck you will NOT have a truck TO drive anymore or a company who will hire you either... The TEXAS DOT states in TEXAS you C A N… I repeat CAN (ok I know I stated you cant all this time but I got it from the horses mouth) CAN have a gun IF you have a right to carry license. Me personally however would be more concerned about what your company rules/regulations are and crossing state lines and THEIR state laws… If you are in a state that does not recognize a right to carry you could be in a whole lot of hurt… "Yawn"

| I am not against guns at all. I used to carry. I still have them in my home. The bottom line is there are to many problems of having them in a CMV. I won't need to list them again, they will just bounce off of peoples heads and tell me that I don't get it. I have deployed twice. Been all over the US. Am a former trained fighter. Competed in full contact. Did not just step off the kiddy ride. I have been around for awhile. Not mentioning any of the legit reasons I listed before, but I have been around enough truckers to realize that a lot of them don't have enough sense to take a shower or brush their teeth on a regular basis lone enough to make a judgement call whether to squeeze a round off or not. I wonder how many would think it is OK to shoot someone if they asked for directions on a CB? Why do you think that companies frown on having guns in the cab? Any of you ever thought of that? Surely they want you to protect the freight. Well for those of you that get it hope you never lose your career. Think of all the armed people that have died. I wonder if Regenal Denney (SP?) the trucker that was pulled out of his semi in the LA riots. If he had a gun and shot a couple of them would he have survived or would he have lost his weapon to the rest of them and been killed with his own gun. Who knows? Point is if you need to carry, do yourself a favor and look for another job.

The US DOT told me when I called last week if you do carry a firearm, you must abide by the state/local laws. However, if you are driving through a state that has a law against firearms in the vehicle you are exempt if your state of origin and state of destination both allow firearms in vehicles. I am not certain, but I think the law on that is Safe Harbor.

| No your state would not save you if that state did not have such a law he was quite clear about that...
