Physicals

I am a newbie for the driving industry. I am classified as disabled but I can pass a dot physical, ( no longer disabled) but my question is:

I have a scar across my chest from a previous surgery. Can the Dr. for the physical ask me what I had done and why? Or is that imposing on my rights? Or does he have the right to ask me that for the future company? To answer your question the scar is from a double lung transplant. I am afraid that if it is brought up, this may disqualify me from future employment. What do you think? Is this a valid concern?

I just did mine this morning and

getting ready to start school at community college next Monday. The specific question that was on the form read: "Have you had surgery in the past 5 years?"

Companies are more strict. The school wants your money. The company does not want to pay a claim.

Physicals

I understand what you all are saying, but can they legally ask you that? Do you legally have to answer the questions about surgeries? Or do we just naturally assume we have too?

They can ask if you have had previous operations before.

Why not just tell them you have?

I was asked and told them that I had knee surgery before. Nothing came of it.

Call a few major trucking companies and see what they say. You don't have to tell them who you are.

Smiley 1 Took my Physical

Well, I finally took my physical for school. Wow, just as I expected. Made such an uproar when the Dr. heard transplant. He had to call DOT, call my Dr.s Didn't know if that could keep me from passing and on and on and on. But in the end after many phone calls and such. They finally did pass me. Dr. said my lungs were in better shape than most of his patients that he had. Such a big relief, but it was harry scary for a little while.

Medical officers have the right to ask for this information. It is then up to them if or not they issue a medical certificate.
