are there any rules governing how you are dispatched out to your 14th hour, my company has a bad habit of working you the full 14 allowed and sticking you with a live unload at the end of your day, example I started last night at 8pm in Camby IN drove 25 miles to Caito foods in Indianapolis and was live loaded and on the way to Wal-Mart DC Washington courthouse OH by 10pm arrived at 1:45 am after stopping for fuel in Daytona at our terminal, appt. was 2:30 got a dock door/checked in and wait, 6am I am unloaded and headed to the 2nd stop Kroger Great Lakes Regional DC in Delaware OH for a 10 am appt, which is the 14 hour clock for me, I arrive at 8am and check in told wait until 10am they will call when a door is ready, 11:15am I get the call and get the lumper fees paid and dock the trailer, told we'll bring your paperwork out when the light is green on the door.... finally at 4:15pm I get my papers I am 6.25 hour over my 14 and can not break there, been the 8.25 hours for 8 pallets that broke down to 26 non-mixed pallets... had basically the same thing happen on monday in Cincinnati arrived at 9:15 and was there until 3pm and my 14 clock expired at 10am, and had to drive out over my 14 there too??? this can"t be legal for them to dispatch you to a live unload at a place where they know your clock will expire and you can not break at the location...so I have a question about the legallity of this??? any one

14 hours don't mean a #### thing! You can log 30 hours straight & be 100% legal as long as your not driving after the 14 hour mark!

Now why didn't you take advantage of your sleeper birth combination?

2:30 you docked.... 6 your unloaded... 3.5 hours could have been in the sleeper.

you said you were at the second stop for 8.25 hours? If you would have utilized the sleeper birth in that time you would have been 100% legal to drive & that is most likely what your company was thinking you were going to do. Remember, they are desk jockeys. They don't know what is going on out in the field or how long it will take you to get unloaded. Improper logging or the lack of their driver knowing the log book rules is not really their concern.

As long as you don't drive over 11 hours you can work as many hour as you want or need to, Just don't be driving!!

You will need 10 hour "sleeper" or "off duty" before you drive again,..

All you are going to hear from your company and most of the people here is to tell you to use the split break option to "stop the 14 hr clock". If you are allowed to split break as there are some companies that wont allow it. Be certain that you are REALLY in the sleeper the whole time you logged it that way.
Here is why: with today's technology and litigious society, if you are involved in an accident with injuries or a fatality, I guarantee the lawyers WILL suponea everything than need to catch you if you falsified your logbook i.e. videotapes, sign in/out logs at the guardshack at the shipper/recv'r, qualcomm data, cellphone data, well, you get the idea!
If you falsified your logs at all, your driving days are OVER!
And just wait till we are required to have EOBRs in the truck!
I know that doesnt really answer your question, but at this time, only YOU can enforce the rules on yourself. You know it's illegal, but if you dont do it, they will starve you out or just plain fire you and find some other steering wheel holder to break the law for them!
As long as you(all drivers) allow this kind of garbage to continue, it will. Until we are all running electronic logs, this industry will continue to coerce drivers into making the decision to run illegal and continue to make the driver pay when he gets caught.

no the company didn't complain, I am a regional driver I get 5 days to rack my miles then off duty for 48. but like that yesterday I was on duty for 20.25 hours with those two live unloads and I lose that drive time off my 70 now on the back end of my week, just sux trading in 300+ miles for a couple hours detention not even close to 13.50 that I sat on line 4, then drove 2 miles to the nearest Truck stop , did my 10, and rolled out this morning,, got good miles today, doesn't seem Legal to me they can dispatch you out on a load they know while take you past your clock to get unloaded and can not park at the consignee? The company does not spilt logging either I can take a nap, and I did at the second consignee, but Log has to be on line 4 while I am in dock to collect any Detention time...
