And it is OK to carry. Saying that doesn't mean anyone is advising anyone else to do so. Did I miss a post where someone said everyone should carry a gun? And I believe every driver should have a way to defend/protect themselves whether it be a tire thumper, knife, or something else. My husband once saw someone swinging their fire exstinguisher (sp?) in self defense...I thought that was quick thinking!

| Post on this thread and under 2 or 3 more threads. People telling drivers it is OK. I have done this a day or two and am telling anybody if you want to end your trucking career and face possible jail time good way to do it.

It is LEGAL to carry a firearm in a CMV...it may be frowned on but it is certainly legal. For anyone that wants proof here are some phone numbers to verify the information for yourself: US DOT: 202-366-4000 FMCSA: 800-832-5660 National Rifle Association: 800-672-3888 For those of you with Sirius Radio, Cam & Company is on channel 144. Listen to them and/or give them a call and ask at 866-NRA-NEWS. They are on 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. CST. It is their job to know the current laws. The DOT told me though if you do carry a firearm, you must abide by the state/local laws. However, if you are driving through a state that has a law against firearms in the vehicle you are exempt if your state of origin and state of destination both allow firearms in vehicles. I am not certain, but I think the law on that is Safe Harbor.

There is so much behind this it could go forever. Here is the facts. I started driving semi's in 1980. I know of no company that allows firearms in CMV's. In fact can anyone on here name a company that allows it? That is like saying it is legal to walk naked on the moon. It might be legal, but how are you going to do it? Almost every place I have ever delivered to has NO FIREARMS ALLOWED on property. What are you going to do? Carry a gun, but stay parked because you are not suppose to have a gun at the shippers or rec's? Here is another thought. What I need is some truck parked beside me 2 foot away at a shipper/ rec or truckstop. Now what I need is for this fool to start shooting at someone in between his truck and my truck. Now I got bullets going through my sleeper and into the next truck beside me. The road is bad enough as it is. All we need now is for CB Rambo to do drive by's at the fuel island. The last OTR co I worked for was out of Nashville. One of our drivers had been arguing on the radio with another driver. The other driver shot his truck up at a stoplight. I saw the bullet holes in the truck. This job is stressful enough without walking in a truckstop and feeling like I am in the the old west and having bullets wizzing by my head. Now what good is it to have a gun when I can't deliver freight? Sorry dispatch. I am packing and this fool company won't let me on the lot. Heck half of the security guards don't pack at these places. You think they want some wild eyed trucker with a gun?

i know exactly what i'm "talking about". you get a permit for the state you live in, right..?? you can not cross state lines with that firearm and be "covered" by that other states gun laws. so, "usually" the law about carrying firearms applies to the state you live in, not going out of state..... as far as "showing you" where it says "you cannot cross state lines carrying any firearm", most states have a warning sign at the state line, or some where just after the state line warning you about firearms, maybe you just happen to close your eyes at the exact moment you pass by that sign....??? "you would need" to do extensive reasearch for EACH STATE you travel through regarding the laws governing firearms. again, i know what I'M talking about. and before anyone "submits", there is no such thing as a "federal gun permit" to carry any firearm. any "federal permit" as such, is for licensed gun dealers............ |
| ||||
| I guess it would work if you crossed over to Alaska, but the only problem is, is Canada is between us but if we were connected directly to the lower 48, then you could come over with a concealed gun. We don't have permits for that type of deal in this state... Pay no attention and don't even argue this thread I am just trying to make it drag on, for fun.
