Did I have an expectation of privacy? Scenario: Driver terminates with company and operations manager produces load swap situation to get driver to terminal for equipment turn in. Driver arrives to do swap, only to be confronted by relay driver on the CB about terminating with company. Relay driver goes on to talk on CB about beginning employment dates, etc and that the Operations Manager gave the information. Was the operations manager in the right or wrong to give that information out? (legally, not ethically) What recourse does the driver have? Is this a civil or legal matter, if one at all? I realize some of you have the back of a duck, I do not. Answers, not Angst! Carry on.

| What are you going to do? Sue the driver for talking about it on the CB? He's part of the company you were leaving. He has every right to know company business, that includes you quiting, and any information pertaining to such. Him and the ops manager may be guilty of poor ethics. But, that's about it. While you may feel violated, there's nothing illegal going on here.

I don't fault the driver for being a jerk. I fault the ops manager for giving private information. My employment record is not for frivolous distribution to unrelated parties. And neither one of you answered the question. You only did what I expected, told me to turn the CB off. Did you read the question? It had nothing to do with whether or not the driver was at fault or what I could have done about it at the time. That driver certainly did not have the right to know "company business" as it pertained to me. And if so, prove that. I think that might just be your opinion. That's like saying that your coworkers have the right to know what wage you are earning, because it is company business. Whereas it is illegal for your employer to discuss your wage with anyone but you. I'm simply trying to find out if this type of situation falls under that category. I asked if I had an expectation of privacy concerning my records.

The answer is NO !! You do not have ANY expectation of privacy along those lines. You're right though, get after it buddy. Sue the entire world cause you didn't like something that was said on the CB by another employee of your company. Because the first thing a lawyer will tell you (and the Judge)...PROVE IT BUDDY, otherwise get the &^$^% out of my courtroom/office. And I'm going to take a violation for this. But you sound just like this bunch around here where I live. "Who can I sue today?" That's much easier than getting on with your own life, and earning a real living. JFC !!!! Get over yourself..you ain't special.

We work in an environment that isn't like the rest of the work force. When I met my wife she didn't believe me either. To apply for a job you need a license and that's about it. You will get hired somewhere. You are trying to pull something out of the hat that doesn't matter to ANYONE but you. Your driving record and DAC will reflect everything that you want to be private. I don't think it was even bad ethics. Maybe he knew a place for you to work. Maybe he started off trying to help and you turned him into a jerk. There was a shirt awhile back that said, " trucking ain't for sissies." You need to apply this saying. If you want to hide something, dig a whole! I guess you must have been embarrassed of what he knew.

What the heck did I do to you? I asked a question. I never said I was going to sue anyone. I asked a question!! It would be way too expensive to sue over something that didn't cause any damages anyway. Don't put your generalizations on me. I was upset, I wanted information. I thought this might be a resource, but instead I get to be a target. Since " prove it" was too harsh, I'll rephrase. Where did you get your information? Means the same thing, you just took offense to the way I said it. Hey, whatever. I asked a question on a freakin forum. If I'm not welcome to, you just say so. I guess YOU are never affronted by what someone says... Oh wait.. you were. YOU ARENT SPECIAL EITHER! Well I can't get on a message board and tell the ops manager to take a short walk off a long pier now can I? (But you can get on and say nasty things to me. I'm glad you got YOUR relief.) So I asked for some information, before I go storming along in life. I was trying to relieve some stress on the situation before I look like the jerk. Your reaction was uncalled for. Perhaps if you get so upset when someone asks a question you think is stupid, you shouldn't answer them! Unbelievable. I hope you aren't head of the welcome wagon.

The sum of that post was: "No, you have no expectation of privacy in your job or job changes" Along with a question as to why you would expect it. Other than having your feelings hurt because you were outted in public. There are no other issues here. Welcome to the real world. Would you like some cheese with that whine? PS, This is an internet forum. Half reality, half BS. You decide what you take from it. WE decide what we give to it.
