Are you company, lease, OO?
You can blank out your personal info and email me a copy and I'll review it for you if you want. PM me if interested. -
go to a professional or buy a program. i personally prefer a professional that i can go to ANY TIME during they year, and speak to HIM...not some nit-wit part timer that probably scrubs toilets at night.
H&R Block will charge you for EVERY FORM you fill out for a deduction with this, or that...you will get a very high bill for them to do your taxes.
i have a regular CPA that is also a tax attorney and there is (for me) no yearly fee's....just the fee when he prepares my taxes.... -
I continue to use the same CPA that I have used since 1977. During that time, I was an owner-operator for nine years. We depreciated the house when my wife did licensed child care. She died two years ago, and I now file single, not head of household. I sold the house last year. My CPA guides me through all of this, and next year I will start drawing down my IRA accounts. I trust him. He keeps his software updated and takes the required classes.
Nevertheless, this year he came up with two answers. His software concluded no tax is due, but indicated a taxable income of just over $1,000. The manual shows a tax of $161 on that income. We chose to file electronically and pay no tax. If the IRS sends me a letter, I will pay whatever they require. So much for CPAs and their software. -
I use general bookeeper to keep up with my general bookeeping and ifta, reg renewal she is great does most via fax, email and doesnt charge and arm and leg just a finger or two. She fusses like my momma and keeps me from paying penalties and interest. Coincidence she is in TN when most of clients are from east coast. She uses quickbooks.

While i was at the local IRS office having my taxes done. The lady there stated to stay away from Jackson Hewitt, H&R Block. She said to use a CPA.

It can be entirely possible in your situation.
Your husband was not OTR for part of his earnings this year.
It is easy enough to evaluate though.
I can look at the numbers if you desire.
I have little respect for H & R Block. -
they only charge me $170 a W-2 -
I had a good CPA and a good job in Jersey. Moved to PA and could not find a good one close by so went to HR Block. They were fine as long as I had a simple salary job with "normal" deductions. Once I became a truck driver and had to explain Per Diem to them they looked at me like I was an alien. Been drivind 3 years now and it seems like I have to go through the whole thing every year. I am searching for a good truck accountant yet.
The good news is that once you set this up with HR Block the new guy next year can compare with previous years to make sure it is correct.
BTW- with my houst deductions I will be getting back $8,000 -
I've used turbo tax for 10yrs, this year my return got really complicated because I'm now playing the stock market, so I had cap. gains, dividends, losses, etc.. In addition to all my regular deductions. Turbo Tax walked me through it, plus, it's easier to "tweak" your numbers if your so inclined.
One thing to keep in mind, H&R Block, Liberty, etc., they have no clue about the bits and pieces of deductions that we as truckers get to take. Not to mention, they are morons. I remember about 15 yrs ago, I had a co-worker and his chick go to H&R Block for their taxes. They spent 3 hrs at the location, when all was said and done, they told him he owed several hundred bucks. When he was looking over the return they had done, he found 4 errors where they put stuff on the wrong line, when they corrected it, he ended up with a refund.
