This is the first year that my husband has done over the road driving. Last driving job (for over 20 years) he was home every night. I have always done our taxes and understand the tax forms ( ran a child care business out of my home for 14 years). My question is about perdiem. As I'm looking at an older pay stub he was paid for 2330.10 miles at 0.07 a mile and 0.24 cents a mile. When he started work for this company, he was hired at .30 cpm. At the top of his pay stub it says, "driver pay" 1 $689.22
    "perdiem" -- $163.12

The top figure also included some pu/drop and layover pay. For a total of $852.34. Taxes and insurance were subtracted from that, and net pay was $713.47. So the 0.07 per mile added up tp the perdiem pay, I am trying to understand how to work his taxes. We file jointly and I use Sch. C and form 8829 for business use of our home, for my daycare. What form do I use for my husband, 2106? Do we claim the perdiem? For his runs he usually leaves on Wednesday and returns on Sunday. Pay is pretty poor:( looking for another job:)

Anyway, any advice on helping me understand figuring his part of the taxes is very much appreciated. I don't want to make any mistakes. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm not a CPA but it is my understanding that if your company pays you cpm as tax free per diem you can not claim the per diem exemption on your taxes.

7 cents is the lowest amount I have heard of, it's usually 10 cents!
