As far as I know it's Aug 31 of this year that's the deadline. For 2014.

I'm going over that right now, as I'm buying another truck this week and need to get all that straightened out myself.

The IRS site says deadline for this season is: July 1st through June 30th.
For vehicles put into service in July, 2014, 2290 must be filed between July 1st and September 2nd, 2014 (which pertains to me.)

I'm always confused with the 2290, haven't dealt with it in a few years. My current truck doesn't require in (under 55K lbs.)

I'm buying a used tractor from a private party. I'd better make sure he's not behind on the 2290 HVUT or I am liable, correct????

yes, they must be paid by Aug 31 which is a Sun. Monday Sept 1 is Labor day, so it extends to Sept 2 this year.

You are also correct that the current owner (you, if you purchase the truck) are responsible for taxes owed and the IRS will collect previously unpaid taxes from you. Make sure you receive proof of payment from the seller, and bring that proof with you to the IRS.

    I am using jjkeller's 2290 web site:
    https://www.2290online.com

ofcourse there is a fee, but is so easy to complete the forms, calculations of what you owe are done automatic and the best thing is you have account. In your account you have access to all previous forms that you have filed and keep tracking on all trucks n taxes that you have. Its simple to me.
