I've been looking at some pete 359's on ebay. I've been thinking about financing one and then running hard to pay it off as quick as I can. They don't seem to cost that much. Just need to find one with a good motor and trany.
I imagine with an older truck I will run into constant mechanical bs. I can do things like change oil, change an alternater, and small stuff like that.
Would I be wise to find a local truck garage that can do the mechanical fixes that I cant do ( for the best rates)?
What other fixed expences are involved...road taxes, fuel , ect. and how much money should I have in the bank before I do this?

    Thanks....

I hav been considering the same but with a slight twist getting a real old truck and just drop whats in it and slap a rebuilt one in,
If you can do alot of the work your self its not a bad idea.
But i have decided land and a house is more important

the reason the 359's are cheap is because the newest 359 is over 20 years old. Multiply that by 125k miles year, 200k if a team drove it.

I'm all for running an old truck but you HAVE t be able to do ALL repairs not just oil changes btu motor work, brakes, suspension rebushing, trany rebuilds, u joints etc. And you HAVE to pay cash for it. How are you going to make a payment on a truck and pay the maintenance an old truck will require? it isn't going to happen.

Oh by the way.. 359's ROCK, best truck ever built
