I to,had to take a job where the company does a per diem of 8 cents a mile daily.Can I turn this to my advantage now that tax time is near,or am I screwed?

You just need to calculate how much per diem you would have recieved, then subtract what you were already paid from it.
Jan 1- Sept 30 rate was 80% of 52 dollars a day.
Oct 1- End of year was 80% of 59 dollars a day.
You will still have some to write off. I am sure .08 a mile did not cover all you would be owed.
Unless you itemize anyway though it may not be enough left to cause you to itemize.

Remember even if you were doing your 34 hour reset on the road. You are entitled to 80% of the 52-59 for each day. Same thing for sitting for a day or two waiting on a load........
