Shaving Gel and Razors Deductible?
I used to let my facial hair grow out until I wound up with sleep apnea. Now in order to get the face mask to fit snugly without leaking air around the seal I must shave regularly.
Would the shaving gel and razors be considered a legitimate expense and if so how would it be categorized?

Why can't all drivers that shave clim a refund? Sorry but I don't think you'll get anywhere with a claim like that.

Yeah, I normally have around 15 grand in medical expenses yearly between doctor visits, meds, labs, cpap supplies etc so an extra 200 bucks a year for razors and gel to make sure the face mask of my Cpap machine keeps a snug fit probably wont ever get questioned let alone qualify for an audit.

If you have a hazmat endorsement and go to chemical plants regularly you would realize a clean shaven face is a must. This is to make sure a respirator has a good seal for the wearer (in case of emergencies).
Include the cost of your shaving supplies on your unreimbursed employee expense report. As long as you have some written documentation requiring you be clean shaven then you too could substantiate this deduction.

Good afternoon,
There is no real "cut and dry" answer, but I can help with my experience. like the previous poster said, if you have your hazmat endorsement, and transport them regularly, and you are required to wear/be prepared to wear a respirator/mask then I would say yes.... If your employer REQUIRES you to be clean shaven (and they have a written policy that you can have handy in case of audit), and does not give you a reimbursement for shaving materials, than I would say yes.... If it a requirement to keep your medical card, then I would think (not 100% sure) that you could put it under your medical expenses....
I would check with a CPA that has experience with truck drivers to make sure you get the right info, and avoid a visit by your neighborhood IRS friends....
I hope this helps
Chris

I keep doing my tax returns until I get a refund that I like. As an american it is your duty to pay as little taxes as you can. I say Screw the IRS and if you don't like it you can just come and audit me. My name is J. B. Hunt and I live in Arkansas.
