Could some one please tell me how Oregon Fuel Tax is calculated. I know that its not included in fuel, so you have to pay it separate but I don't know how its calculated?
Lets say if I traveled on 616 miles in Oregon(GVW 80,000) how much tax I have to pay?
Also does it effect our tax if we run loaded or empty?

It is based on your gross operating weight and the number of axles you have.
There are several different tax rates depending on your situation.
I will assume you have a 5 axle unit ( 3 axle tractor & 2 axle trailer) and you are registered 80000 pounds.
the current rate is .1316 so you take the number of miles multiplied by the mil rate and that is your tax
example 616 miles ( x ) .1316 = $81.0656 or $81.07
They don't care if you are empty or loaded the tax rate only changes if your configuration changes ie you drop a trailer and bobtail then the rate would change. Raising drop axles does not count either.
So lets compare to Washington state they charge .3750 cents per gallon.
Assuming you get 5 miles per gallon it would (in road tax alone it would cost you $46.20 to travel the same 616 miles in Washington state.
616 miles in Oregon $81.07
616 miles in Washington $46.20
Yes it is a rip off and yes they will audit you if you lie or under-report your miles.
You can either buy a permit for each trip through the state or you can purchase a weight reciept indentifier and file a quarterly report.
If you travel quite a bit in Oregon they will change your status and you will need to file a Monthly Mileage Report.
Wait it gets better in I believe it is Oct of 2010 the rates are set to be increased about 3 or 4 cents per mile.

Good luck the economy in Oregon is one of the worst so hauls into and out of the state might be hard to find.
Of course with taxes like they charge they simply run the businesses out.
Of course ODOT will tell you that the registration fees are really small so that makes it even tax wise. Of course if you own a calculater you can see for yourself that is nonsense.
Hope that answers your questions
Good luck
