Was Caltrans right to tear down Stockton truck school sign?
Was Caltrans right to tear down Stockton truck school sign?
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CA - The owner of a truck driving school in San Joaquin County is irate with Caltrans after they removed one of his advertisements along Highway 12 west of Lodi.
Gary Guthrie, owner of Class A in One Day truck driving school, said the advertisement that was on the side of one of his semi trucks costs around $2,500 and was taken down and destroyed by a Caltrans crew.
"90 to 95 percent of all my business comes from (people seeing those signs)," said Guthrie. "(Caltrans) sent two guys out here, and they took a knife, and cut the whole vinyl sign off the side of this trailer."
Caltrans said they gave plenty of warning. In March, they sent Guthrie a letter, stating the sign did not meet the requirements of the California Outdoor Advertising Act and needed to be removed.

He has a full billboard on 99 just north of Stockton also...Class A in one day...must be a really intense course...chalk full of information and training...more "safe drivers" to deal with in San Joaquin Valley!

I've seen one of those class A in one day rigs. They meet the absolute minimum reqiurements for a class A. Just a little truck with a backhoe trailer. Unless you knew someone who would teach you to drive a real truck and then put you to work, you would have no chance of getting a job driving a rig. I've seen one of these guys on a test drive while I was waiting on a load. They booted him out of the truck before he could even get out of the yard with it.
