Wondering how rising oil prices and problems in Europe will effect trucking. Assuming the big companies will continue to roll with their power of scale but did things slow down in 2008 after fuel prices climbed? We could be looking at even higher prices this time.

When are people going to use some logic ? The more places that shut down the less there is to ship and truckers are also losing jobs .
There aren't any new trucking jobs - just today's newbies filling the seats of trucks abandoned by yesterday's newbies .

Gotta keep these driving schools open some how. I know, let's tell people they'll make big $$$$$$$ driving a truck.

This article really annoyed me . I was on the road when I read it on my Blackberry and didn't have my laptop . When I got home I e-mailed the reporter and told her the CDL mill duped her into helping them exploit more victims . I sent her some FACTS about the industry . I quoted Werner's annual report stating they reduced their fleet and are keeping it at 7,300 trucks . So why are they all recruiting ?
Better , I showed her a statement from CRE saying the recruit between 4,000 - 5,000 newbies a year from CDL mills . Then I showed her CRE's SAFER snapshot showing they have 5,300 drivers . I then explained a little about turnover with OTR carriers .
I told her to come here for more facts and to put "prehire" in the site search .
I also gave her my opinion of a school that uses daycabs to train wannabes for OTR jobs.
Just sent the e-mail earlier this morning . I'll let you know if I get a response .

The promises haven't changed in 14 years I see. Same thing promised toay as it was in the 90's.

1 thing did change. In the 90s it was #35k your first year. Now it is $45-50k. lol

There are a lot of drivers that are still trying to get the $35k they were promised in the 90s...

I will say the truth in her story is that most students are getting the program paid for by work training programs. Get unemployed here is Florida and that is the first thing they offer, truck driver training at the local trade school...

CRE is honest in their advertising...The local paper says earn from "$0-$50,000"...No one ever considers the ZERO.
