New port ID to cost $137.25

New port ID to cost $137.25
    3/31/07
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has announced the total standard fee for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential applicant is $137.25, or $105.25 for applicants who already completed a comparable threat assessment.

The agency announced the rates earlier this month in the Federal Register. The agency published a final rule in January that establishes requirements for merchant mariners and workers who need unescorted access to secure areas of maritime facilities and vessels. These individuals must successfully complete a TSA security threat assessment and hold a TWIC.

The agency said it must collect user fees to cover the costs of enrolling applicants, completing security checks, providing an appeal and waiver process, and issuing biometric “smart cards” containing the workers' fingerprints.

The initial enrollment will be phased in based on priority such as port size, volume, location and number of employees. It will take 18 months to issue TWIC cards to the 750,000 workers who will be affected once the rollout begins.

    Applied for my TWIC

What does everybody think about the TWIC enrollment? I just applied for mine. I think that the count of 750,000 people needing one will be higher than that figure.
