San Diego Union Tribune, CA

NATIONAL CITY – In an effort to reduce pollution in National City, officials passed a law this week that prohibits diesel trucks weighing more than 10,000 pounds from idling more than five minutes.
The crackdown is aimed at stopping truck driving schools from practicing maneuvers and idling within 100 feet of a school, but also intends to reduce all truck idling in the city.

i just wonder how those trucking school people are going to get practice time in when the trucks have to be shut down..............

some politicians simply don't think...............if any trucking school were to move out of the area, i wonder how the city will make it up in lost tax revenues.............

trucking is hard enough without this. now your gonna have a lot of tired piss3d off drivers out there. i see an increase in accidents in these areas which in turn will bring on more tougher laws aimed at the truck driver. get ready drivers the worst is yet to come.........

This has been an ongoing battle for this truck driving school for a while now, and the school ultimately lost.

The City is also planning on changing the zoning to ultimately force these long existing businesses out of town.

Here is the original article when this all got started. The City clearly points out that their goal was to run Momax Truck Driving School out of town.

Pretty pathetic really. An area of the Country that is so dependant on the trucking industry, yet they want no part of the training that is needed to bring new drivers into the trucking industry.

Not that this law has much effect for most drivers, since AFAIK, there's no truckstops in National City, or anywhere in San Diego for that matter.

No truck stops, but there are some businesses there the drivers may be picking up and delivering to.

Gets pretty hot in Southern California, would hate to have to sit and bake in my truck while waiting to load or unload.

Most of the time, the weather in San Diego is pretty mild. Just don't deliver during a "Santa Ana".
