Big trucks need big room Big trucks need big room 6/5/07 Quote: Leon Gross has been cut off, tailgated and treated to the "one-fingered salute" in his 50 years as a truck driver. On a short Monday jaunt from Woodland to Ridgefield, a pickup kept up a constant speed right next to him, occasionally dropping into the large rig's blind spot. "Why would a guy want to sit next to a big truck?" Gross, 68, asked, shaking his head. Using $200,000 from a federal grant, the Washington State Patrol will target drivers who risk wrecks with big rigs in Southwest and Eastern Washington. The campaign is called TACT, for Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks, and will include an emphasis patrol that pairs officers with truck drivers to target people who drive recklessly around large rigs.
