| Truckers, lured to chance Truckers, lured to chance to win money, lose theirs Middletown Journal, OH
6/5/07 Quote:
FRANKLIN — Two out-of-state truck drivers didn't even have a chance to "find the queen" before losing hundreds of dollars.
Randy Forster Jr. of Flint Mich. told Franklin police a man approached him about 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Pilot Travel Center on Ohio 123 with $300 in his hand and said he just won the money playing a card game, police reports show.
Forster followed the man to another group of men who told Forster he needed $500 to play a game of three-card monte — a game that challenges players to find a specific card, typically the queen of Hearts.
"I didn't even want to play," Forster said. "They said they just wanted to count my money to see if I had enough to play."
Then the men, Forster believed four were involved, ran off with his $500.
"Looking back there were a lot of red flags that should have went up in my mind," Forster said. "It was a real long day for me. It's pretty embarrassing."
Forster isn't alone. David K. Mills, a truck driver from Cleveland, lost $300 to the men in a similar way. He could not be reached for comment.
Forster thinks the men are from the area.
"They knew their way around and where to run," he said.
Police are investigating. Anyone with information may call (937) 746-2882.
