I was a Trooper for only 3 1/2 years. In that time I had over 2000 dui arrests.. I was assigned to the dui tach squad.. made multiple felony arrests.. had several resisting and assault incidents... at that time in my life I was a whole 22 years old and 6'1" 150 lbs.
at no time did I ever have to use my weapon because I was unable to defend myself... I am not saying I was a bad ### as a matter of fact I had it kicked several times. But everyone lived through it...
one of the things that we had to do in the academy was fight each other.. not to see who was the badest but to see how bad of a beating we could take without having to kill somebody... they always said if there was one of us who could whip everyone in class then they would hire someone to whip them...

I say all this because killing someone to prevent getting your ### kicked is not justified....

I hope we learn what did happen but I doubt we will... I would guess civil suits will be quietly settled out of court..

There is a class in the Military, mainly for getting captured,,forget the name but, you basically get the crap kicked out of you, like you would if your were captured by the enemy. One of the things you have to do is walk through a line, with people on each side. As you walk through each one slaps you real hard in the face. You are suppose to take it! If a person can get over the fear of being "hit" in the face, they won't worry about an arse woopen..

I respect your position, but disagree.

If a person is crazy enough to assault a security guard with a gun, how can you be confident that he would have stopped a suitable beating? How do you know he wasn't out to kill the guard? Why put his life on the line to give a crazy guy a break?

I don't shed any tears when I hear of a criminal getting killed while committing a crime. In fact, if they all dropped dead in mass right now, wouldn't America be a better place?

I think that "beating training" probably has something to it.

I remember way back to about 9th grade, and I was a lot tougher after being beat up a few times. I remember having that "what's the worst that could happen" attitude. We called it being a Cement Head.

In theory, it would be a better place,,,but, how great would a world be where everybody is perfect? It will never happen my friend and we must all have compassion and empathy.. I must say, I wasn't there and I have only read a part of the story. You are assuming this guy was actually coming at the security guard, crazy like. I am not saying he was or wasn't but, perception can be a bugger. The security guards perception could have been off, who knows. Me personally though, I don't want to kill anyone, I will, but I don't want to. Escalation of force is something I learned and the security guard should know it as well. I am sure all LEO's know it and each dept has it's own SOP (standard operating procedure) regarding that escalation of force. The physical act of shooting someone is easy, but not always necessary. I like non-lethal rounds myself and do own some. This is a good debate,,lets keep it going.
