Dennis Sheehan, 58, of Sauganash Park, has been driving trucks for 29 years. In that time, he's racked up more than 1 million accident-free miles, which is more than a lot of Chicago area drivers can say.
Where do you drive, and what's a typical day like? I have what they call the Chicago West run. It's all local, city driving. I probably make anyplace from 7 to 12 deliveries. Depending on how busy we are, same on pickups.
You always know what time you start, but you never know what time you're going home.

Why did you stop doing long-distance driving? I was gone all the time. When I first started, I was a road driver for a little bit over two years. I drove every state in the United States except for Maine and Vermont. Sometimes, I'd get home once a month. If you want to raise a family and stuff, it's hard...doing it by telephone.
