[TD] Missouri bill would repeal truck lane restrictions
If a Missouri state lawmaker gets his way, large trucks traveling through the state would no longer be forbidden to use the far left lane on certain roads through Kansas City and St. Louis. OOIDA encourages all Missouri members to urge their state House lawmakers to endorse the measure.

Right i bet the guy with a 62mph truck will be taking the very far left lane and hang in there like it's okay with 1000 cars and trucks behind him waiting for him

it was exactly that behavior that brought on the lane restriction laws in the first place

Or, maybe I want to be in the middle lane, because the right lane has cars constantly merging on the freeway and some other driver big truck wants to pass on the right and manage to get ahead 1 mile in the course of 15 minutes till we pass through the city. Now, they can just pass in the left lane and stop their griping.

if you are driving slow, what difference does merging traffic make?

whenever i am driving slow, i stay far right and i am willing to bear the discomfort of merging traffic rather than block the middle lane

by you driving slow nin the middle, you are blocking TWO lanes

to me, each lane carries a responsibility

far right is travel and merge and even 45mph if you wish

center, for passing far right or avoiding merging traffic, if i must stay in the center, i make sure i am not impeding traffic flow

far left, you are passing center then return to center

I keep a good distance and maintain the speed limit if I'm in the middle lane. Sitting in the right lane is an accident waiting to happen. If you want to do it, then go do it. How can you blame me for driving slow in the middle lane if I'm doing the speed limit? I see big trucks get impatient and come around me and get in my following distance and get no further. Why not just relax and go with the flow? You're not saving any time at all. I see it all the time, big trucks just tail gate and try to go around and 15 minutes later they are only 1/2 mile ahead of me. Plus, many times the right lane turns into exit only, or I need to be in the middle lane for when the road forks.

If you're driving a slow truck then stay in the right lane. Stop holding the rest of us up. Thank you. Enough of that stupidity. You're slower than everyone else. Know your place.

After many near-death experiences with inattentive 4 wheelers attempting to merge, I utilize the center lane - which was engineered for THRU TRAFFIC. I run 5 mph above the limit. If you wanna push your luck and get nowhere fast - pass me! That lane I'm in is my lane. There are many like it. Choose another.

While I dislike the lane restrictions as much as anyone, I think lifting them will make things worse, you'll have 3 or4 lanes clogged with governed trucks running side by side instead of just 2, and they will think of some dumb reason to justify it in the name of "safety"...
