The owner of a Massachusetts-based trucking company has been sentenced to one year of probation and fined $1,000, after pleading guilty to attempting to bribe a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration inspector.
Irfan Dushku, 60, owner of Korca Enterprises Inc. of Worcester, Mass., was charged with bribery of a public official in September 2013, after an FMCSA investigator reported that Dushku paid him $1,000 to produce a false FMCSA Compliance Review of his company.
Prior to the bribery charge being filed, FMCSAs SAFER website showed that during the previous 24 months, Korcas vehicles were subjected to 12 random roadside inspections.
On seven occasions, safety violations so significant that they pose an imminent hazard to public safety were revealed and the vehicle was immediately placed out-of-service for a vehicle inspection out-of-service percentage of 58.3, Duane DeBruyne, FMSCA spokesman, told Land Line after Dushku was charged. The national average is 20.72 percent.
DeBruyne added that on 27 occasions in the 24 months leading up to the bribery charge, Korcas drivers were subjected to random roadside inspections (checking CDL, medical certificate, log book). On three occasions, he said the driver was immediately placed out-of-service for a driver inspection out-of-service percentage of 11.1. DeBruyne said the national average is 5.51 percent.
Dushkus company, Korca Enterprises, which had six power units and six drivers, no longer has operating authority.
According to court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Worcester, Mass., besides the $1,000 fine, Dushku has also been ordered to pay the United States a special assessment of $100, which is due immediately.

$1,000 AND he lost his authority.
Well he certainly learned his lesson! -
Well.. what are the chances that a family member or friend will pick up the reigns and the company will just roll with a new name and under different authority. ?.
