Mandatory Highway Watch provision canceled in GA

Mandatory Highway Watch provision canceled in GA

Quote:
Truckers in Georgia soon will no longer have to take a one-hour training session on homeland security to get or renew their CDL.
The Highway Watch program, which is funded with tax dollars, consists of a short classroom session – or a video or audio presentation – followed by the issuance a Highway Watch ID card. It’s administered by the American Trucking Association.
In June 2006, Gov. Sonny Perdue signed into law a measure requiring truckers to participate in the Highway Watch program.
But a new law, just signed by Perdue, drops that requirement. It takes effect Jan. 1, 2008.
According to the DHS grant and training office, the funding for ATA’s Highway Watch program is estimated to total $56.7 million since 2003.

I got mine a couple of years ago -
like anything such as a neighborhood watch, I guess the more aggressive you are, the more you participate. I think I keep a normal eye out for the suspicious but have never seen anything worth reporting.
you can get on the email list and get regular updated of incidents and policy changes, but to be honest, I couldn't tell you what the content has been about in the last couple of months that I've received them - they seem to get bogged down too heavily in the administrative side when they could take advantage of the computer to create a forum like this one for participant to exchange thoughts and ideas. But again, I get paid to drive, not to put in my management critiques, LOL!
oh yeah, you get a cool sticker to put on your truck and personal vehicle along with a nifty certificate!
