    Hi broodmom, like I say, it's cool, but your son is an exception to the norm. Anthropologist turned truck driver, if that isn't opposite ends of the spectrum, I don't know what is. Sadly, the great majority of new drivers today come from poorer backgrounds, or immigrants who come to the US, in search of a better life for their families, who are living in cardboard boxes somewhere, and these people will work for .30 cpm, and I guess that's ok, after all, it is America. Again, I don't mean to rip on your son at all, but being in this industry for 35+ years, I've seen who makes it and who doesn't. I do wish your son the best of luck.

    Hi Hoagie, Bingo. A couple of years ago, my daughter moved to L.A. and wanted to ship her car there from Wis. She contracted an outfit out of the twin cities, and a young man showed up in a ratty old Freightliner, and 3 cars on the trailer. He barely spoke any English, but was a very nice kid,said he was from Somalia, and wants to bring his family here, who are living in a shack in Somalia with 2 other families. My daughters car was #4, and he said he had 3 more to pick up before heading to Cal. I asked him what that paid him, he said he got $100/car. So for $700 dollars, this kid was going to California.( BTW, my daughter paid $700 dollars to have it shipped) 4 days later, my daughter said this kid showed up, right on schedule. So the company made $4900 ,minus fuel, and paid this kid $700 dollars.

    Im working on getting the hell out.. After 27 yrs of the BS! Im through!! Im 49 yrs of age and want a real job.. To heck with this Crap!! Ill even take a job picking up cans on the side of the road before dealing with these lying sorry ### companies anymore..
    The real solution is better pay and benefits.. Period.. For what you give up in your life and all youll lose.. It isnt worth it.. Example.. Here why they dont give a Ratts Butt us. Swift just gave a pay raise and their stock fell over 20% , now their contiplating taking it back partially because drivers arent worth it, investors are..

    Hi tahokid, well, you are certainly not alone, pal. It really is a different job than it was years ago.I know I would never drive a truck again. So, what was the straw that broke your back?

    i know this is an old thread, but what you said is 100% ########. Their stock did drop 18% but according to their stock report it is because they are having to turn freight down because they do not have enough drivers, so to get more drivers they did the biggest pay raise for drivers since the company was made.

    They are not going to remove it, hell if they did they would lose most of their drivers, i realize you are old and bitter and hate everything, but do not spread lies.
