Seeking Industry Info

I'm trying to figure out how many trucks are on the road in the U.S. (and Canada), and the average number of miles a truck travels each year.

Is there an industry resource for this info?

all ya gotta do is google!
one artilcle put the number in Canada at 660450
( I leave it up to you to research how that number breaks down to the types of trucks that make up that survey - oh, ok, here's a hint : In 2003, the number of registered trucks in Canada reached 660,450. These consisted of 378,258small trucks and 282,192 large trucks. (Small trucks ranged from 4.5 tonnes up to just under 15tonnes, while large trucks weighed 15 tonnes or more.) )
and the number in the United States has long been talked about as 3 million OTR drivers but one article referenced the number 8 million - 7,912,018

In the past 15 minutes I have not found a single resource with the answers but have scanned through various NHTSA, CRASH, and FMCSA reports that include numbers, none of which are particularly current. The above figure of trucks in the USA is from 2003.bb.
