I read on another board that several trucks had been jacked recently, including one where the driver's hands had been cut off.
Anyone heard news regarding truckjackings in the Laredo area or south Texas?

Yeah we need to get that NAFTA thing appealed so Laredo can fade back into obscurity. I have no idea why we trade with countries who's biggest gross domestic product is misery.
Tall Mike, dennisroc and semi retired semi driver Thank this. -
Complete bull. Nothing on Google news about it which means it did not happen.

Hijackings a Concern for Truck Drivers -
Knock on wood, Laredo is not on the top area, but the few times lately, the husband has had no problems. He has slept in truck, parked in street where he delivered to and at the new pickup location.
He did have a load of clothes stolen though from the Pilot there a couple of years ago. He had been sick with the flu and was doing laundry while he took a shower. Hope the sick perp got the flu, the deadbeats.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -
Not gonna say it can't/doesn't happen--BUT--I am down there quite frequently--and do not see any of it--The area(Laredo)has its issues--but no worse than any other very urban area w/a relatively poor population. As for the RGV--IMHO--you cannot compare the 2--the RGV really has nothing in common w/most other border crossing area--totally different attitude. Other than knowing a couple of drivers who have had illegals try and stoway on/under their trux--I havent heard of any real trouble down there. I really wonder sometimes where these stories come from--and if you talk to locals they tell you--that most of this incidents--lead right back to the cartels across the border--AND it is typically their OWN people that are involved--due to them NOT doing what they are instructed to do on this side--and it is a msg shall we say....
The other thing I find interesting--and it may just be standard media ignorance--but--in the linked news story--from the TV station in the RGV--the byline is Edinburg--which makes sence since--Edinburg is where all 3major truckstops are there....BUT the so called truck driver they interviewed was said to be hauling a load from Laredo to Toronto--so I ask you--What was he DOING in Edinburg?Giggles the Original Thanks this. -
used to load avocado's there every week. never had a problem.
