Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will put an alternate route in place on Interstate 84 this weekend to accommodate increased volumes of traffic anticipated coming from the Gunfighter Skies Air Show and Boise State University football game

Westbound traffic on I-84 headed downtown will be diverted off the interstate to Federal Way at the Gowen Road Interchange on Saturday and Sunday evenings (Sept. 20 and 21).

“With several major events going on throughout the Treasure Valley, we anticipate it to be a very busy, high-traffic weekend on I-84,” said Reed Hollinshead, ITD public affairs specialist. “The goal of putting this alternate route in place is to relieve congestion in the construction zone, which will help everyone reach their destination more timely.”

ITD reminds drivers to slow down and pay attention in the work zone. The speed limit is 55 mph on I-84 and 25 mph on Gowen Road.

The interchange is being replaced to accommodate more traffic and improve safety. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2015.

Knife River Corporation, of Boise, is the contractor for this $27 million project

there is no bypass around Boise and the effected area. Add to that road construction from mm 58 to mm 54 both directions.

Sounds like a pain in the ###. I run that frequently.
