Mayor wants to ban trucks from I-75 bridge

Mayor wants to ban trucks from I-75 bridge
8/13/07
Quote:
The mayor of Covington, KY – which is right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati – wants to ban heavy trucks from the bridge that carries Interstate 75 over the river.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Mayor Butch Callery says the 17,000 heavy trucks that use the Brent Spence Bridge each day create too many safety concerns for other vehicles.
However, a ban on trucks on an interstate highway would require federal approval.
Trucking companies in the area are already gearing up to fight the proposal, pointing out that forcing trucks onto alternate routes will drive up fuel costs and increase delivery times, the Enquirer reported.

Actually, it is the other vehicles that create a safety concern for the 17,000 trucks that use the I-75 bridge every day.

Now is the time for those who drive in this area to get vocal, and do it quickly.

Hazmat already has to go around the east side. That is a long long way out of the way.

Back in '87 thru trucks were banned from going through Cincinnati. Talk about a long way around that east side. It seemed to take forever.

I don't know how long the first ban lasted, but it has happened there before.

Covington, KY - ah yes, the place where Cincinnati Mayor Jerry Springer learned they accept personal checks for Pro Ho services. This guy should check on the whereabouts of his wife and daughter. Or he could be their pimp on the side.
