Don't know the reason why, medical issues? Or just fell asleep? Semi hit the brush in Indiana on I-65 about the 224 MM on North bound side. Being buried in the trees like that I hope the driver is ok, tree limb coming through the windshield could be bad.
I-65 trucker heads into the brush....

If you hear hoofbeats, it is probably a horse, but once in a while it might be a zebra. Same for these one truck accidents. The overwhelming majority are drivers distracted or falling asleep. A very small minority are some mechanical failure, and a smaller minority yet are a medical emergency.
OLDSKOOLERnWV and Cetane+ Thank this. -
I saw that wreck, and it was pretty bizarre. Glad it wasn't me, and I hope the best for the driver. I agree with Studebaker about his comments on causes, distraction is the big player. Phones and texts, CB, cigarettes, snacking, kicking shoes off, so much can happen any time we're not 100% into driving focus.

Yes, in most cases it turns out to be distraction. Back in the early 90's it was slow going as we eased down the road coming through Buffalo, a ways south a white Cabover with a box trailer was buried in the tree line. As it turned out he had a heart attack and steered off the road to avoid any possible collision with other drivers, in my mind I look at all drivers as though they have that mentality, but unfortunately some are like the flatbed that passed us just a couple of miles before we seen this accident. The flatbed was weaving all over the Montfort lane and rolling on with no problem, but his load was only about 3/4 of load, styrofoam.... Either way, I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, until the proof comes out. -
Holy crap didn't know this made the news.
I was there when it happen. He pass me and my trainee(he was driving) then just drifted off to the left, at first we thought he just follow the curve of the road but it seem so suddenly. Once his lights disappear I told my trainee flashers on and pulled over. At first we couldn't spot the truck because the crash shut down all his trailer/tractor lights. Once I saw a glimpse of reflective tape from the trailer we pulled over. I called police and told them my location. I decide to stay to see if they were hurt(team drivers) both of them walked away fine, the driver was shaken up, and one was in the bunk. We stayed until police arrived so they wouldn't be sitting ducks on the shoulder. Left after giving my statement, I believe he fell asleep on the wheelOLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this. -
Also I think I got it on video, checking my dash cam now
Edit- ah nvm it got overwritten -
Speaking of wrecks, I drove by the one in Oklahoma that took out the bus w/ softball players on it. The article stated that the truck ran into the trees off the shoulder, but when I went by the trailer was in the median being hooked and the tractor was gone. Goes to show that nothing is as it appears to be, especially if you didn't witness it...
