Yep, another example of journalmalism. Probably transcribed directly from a company press release.
Raises for "most," but not for YOU, driver! :biggrin_255:

Where do I sign up? I'm going to cancel my authority, leave my rig at a truck stop I'm currently at now and greyhound there for Monday.

They'll have a clause in fine print that reads, "No pay increase if you have a BMI of 25% or greater, or if your neck size exceeds 17.5 inches.":biggrin_25511:

That, and you would see a return of the professional career driver like we had in the 70's, before deregulation turned the industry yellow. The average truck driver recruit we see today is an embarassment to this profession, but that's the kind of candidates you draw from the dregs when you're willing to pay squat.

Pay a good wage and your initial higher employment costs are offset by much lower recruiting costs, far less turnover, drivers who are proud to be with and more committed to the company, which results in better customer service and fewer late loads. Plus the average fleet driver would be more experienced and less accident prone, which could only please the insurance carriers and lawyers, by keeping lawsuit costs arising from wrecks down. Equipment would be better maintained and not like the filthy trucks you see on the road today.

If only they would...and bring the pride and professionalism back to trucking.

Are you sure about that? You trying to tell me that increasing starting wages is going to improve the caliber of entrants into "the profession"? How does that work exactly? You going to require 4 years of "CDL college" and a bachelors degree in order to get hired into an apprentice program? Increasing the starting wage is simply going to INCREASE the number of morons coming into the trade. This is basic business knowledge. The key is to start low and have a rapidly increasing pay scale to KEEP proven drivers from moving or exiting. The carriers have the "start low" part down, but failed to implement the other important of the solution.

By deregulation im assuming you mean deregulation of the COMPANY not the driver correct ? If anything the drivers are OVER regulated and blamed for everything and many things that are the fault of the company and their lack of maintenance.

"It takes a peculiar form of logic to cut pay steadily and then be shocked that fewer people want to do the job. "

I loved that point brought out in the article, every driver with a FB or twitter account should have a link to that article.

If you've been in this industry for some time you'll know what deregulation is. Deregulation relaxes labor laws to benefit the companies, not the the employees. Deregulation creates tax loopholes that the companies exploit to pay zero or
near zero net corporate taxes. It all sounds good on the surface, let's stick it to the feds, but without corporations contributing their share of taxes, guess who's left to subsidize the government's coffers?
