Some here have a completely different take on the definition of "deregulation" (in the context of the trucking industry) then I do.

Hmmm....I have been driving the "pumpkin" trucks for over 6 months now. I have not seen this "raise" that is mentioned. If that is just for the newbs coming in, it screws over the rest of us that have been driving for them for awhile. I also had to take my truck in for a "PM" a few weeks ago. When I got it back, they had adjusted the time the truck will idle from unlimited (in high idle) to FOUR MINUTES! Now...since I drive routes that go from PA to the north-central part of the US, I have to sit in the cab and double-clutch every 4 minutes to warm up the engine (that keeps it idling). We all know that running on a cold engine really shortens the life of the engine.

As to the previous poster. We do NOT have APU's, we are not allowed to have an inverter over 120 watts, and our bunk heaters are the only way to stay warm. I can understand Schneider's need to save on fuel, but every time I turn around, there are more drivers leaving for other companies. Schneider can raise the pay all they want, but until they get a handle on drivers comforts, especially for us that are OTR, they will continue to see a high turnover rate.

    Just my 2 cents.

With a 90-110% turnover rate industrywide why are companies going to blindly raise pay? Accountants (who are robots) and CEO's (who have ALOT of people to answer to, more than we can imagine) read about this and realize that there is no point in paying alot of money if 90-110% of your workforce will be gone in a year. If turnover goes down then pay will go up.

8 to 13 pct huh ?...well thats very generous of you masta !....and these cheap ##### companys wonder why the seasoned drivers are bailing left and right and alot of the young recruits quickly go away when they discover the lousy pay , poor treatment , and freezin or cookin in a metal box ...what morons .
i have no sympathy for these company execs runnin to the press crying driver shortage ...what they really have is a shortage of cheap labor and 8 to 13 pct is a slap in the face to a seasoned driver that endures all the bs while upper managment goes home to their mcmansion at the end of the day and gets their greedy ###e$ powder puffed .
you wont see me runnin otr again till the pay makes it worth my while .
