large trucks will be banned from the left lane

Truckers, prepare to move to right

In an effort to improve safety, large trucks will be banned from the left lane on 60 miles of Interstate 4.

Drivers worried about getting squeezed between big trucks might soon find Interstate 4 a little easier to navigate.

By the end of next month, large trucks will be banned from using the far left lane of I-4 along a 60-mile stretch through southern Orange, Osceola, Polk and Hillsborough counties.

"The idea is to separate the truck traffic where you can," said Steve Homan, spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation in Central Florida.

If this works any better than the super I-70 ban here in Indiana, there will be a lot of tickets issued to truckers. lol

Won't this cause a problem due to the majority of trucks that are regulated? I keep hearing alot of complaining about the speed regulations - there to slow for some trucks to "keep up". Just wondering.

I am not replying to anyone, jusxxxxt making an observation. I rode in an 18-wheeler for 4 months and I loved it and hated it at the same time. First, you are in the 2 right lanes only and when cars come on from the ramp they go so darn slow and you got to slow down for them unless you can get over. I think that 18-wheelers should be allowed to travel in the middle and far left lanes. They have a job to dxo, a place to be at a certain time. Those other 4-wheelers just lol-a-gag along. They do not care.

And another thing, before a drivers license is issued, I think everyone should have to ride in an 18-wheeler. Than they might be more respectful to all the truck drivers.

How many lanes are we talking here? Keeping trucks in the right lane or lanes forces merging with lots of traffic in those right lanes, if only 1 lane, it makes it dangerous beyond reason.

Logic dictates that through traffic would stay out of the right lane.

Like on I-40 where you have 3 lanes on each side, I think the trucks should be allowed in the farleft because they keep going. There are people that ride in the right lane and the middle that go way too slow.

Unless they have widened I-4, if I remember correctly, there are parts of it that are only 2 lanes. I know that some of it is three lane, hopefully, they are talking about the three lane stretches. Use to live there (moved early 2005), and had to drive to the Orlando airport a couple of times. I-4 sucks anyway. Crappy road surface, and one trip to Orlando airport, we were delayed by almost 2 hours because of 2 separate car accidents. I don't know if they have made any improvements on it since 2005 - haven't been near it since then.

I like the idea I've seen in this thread about putting the rigs in the left lanes, and leaving the right lane for the idiots that don't know how to merge. That's good thinking, and logical, which means it will never happen! Of course the 4-wheelers would have a cow if they ever did make that change!

I4 sucks like crazy. no one follows the speed limit on the road. the number of lanes seems to vary depending on what the road crews felt like building. there is really no rhyme or reason for it.

btw.. i left Florida in 2006, had been there since 2003. If i could get somewhere and avoid I 4.. i went the route that avoided it.
