... and in the USA we think there's over regulation...

... consider that in the EU they have implemented mandatory training for EXPERIENCED drivers to the tune of about $4K every five years.

They are projecting a shortage of 60,000 drivers in the UK for the holiday season. Note that one of the options is to hire drivers from Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.

In the long run, this will SERIOUSLY HURT the general public. Necessary goods and services will not get delivered or be so late that it will end up hurting the economy as a whole.

He seems to imply younger drivers do understand, and few things seem less likely.

The US is not far from mandated speed governors, thanks to the nearly universal speeding and following too closely.

Guys will be telling those "remember when" stories and crying in their beer until the end of time.

"While extra manpower and vehicles mean higher costs, hauliers say they saw this shortage coming."

Labor shortages are caused by 1 thing and 1 thing only: insufficient pay

That goes for truck drivers as well as doctors -- if your time is better spent doing something else, you'll probably do that instead.

Lepton1, tahokid and TruckDuo Thank this.

Yes and you should take a look at the HOS in the UK. And we think we've got it bad. Not even close to what the UK drivers have to put up with.

    gpsman Thanks this.

I wonder whether they are paid by the mile or by the hour, and how much?

Wow that is confusing. How does anyone get any driving done 4.5 hr and 45 min break a total of 90 hrs a 2 week period. Then off road and on road change hrs allotted.
