banks have to declare any large amounts of monies deposited into an account,I believe you have to declare it,which he did. A few drivers I have known thru the years owe child support and uncle sam taxes, they have hidden monies this way. I say if he owes taxes or child support it should be taken. Also common sense would tell you,you really need to show a legitimate means of getting that much money,he should have had pay receipts etc.. I think there is more to this story than told.Just guessing of course, who knows, not a very good place to keep it.

Sounds like according to the article his supervisor came out and could not show proof of receipt for having that much money on him, sounds fishy, even smells a little fishy. Can't imagine any company being happy knowing their driver carries $25k with them in cash.

Just watch, now he'll have to spend $20,000 on lawyers and legal fees to get his $23,000 back. Gotta love the system.

He shouldn't get $1,000,000 for this. He should get $1,000,000,000 for this. Everyone involved in this disgrace should be horsewhipped, fired, and get a year in general population with "CORRUPT COP" tattooed on his forehead.

Thank the war on drugs for this fascistic farce, everyone. They stole the money because they get to KEEP IT. He's lucky they didn't "find" drugs in his truck.

Cool nothing new

Few years back a black landscaper was stop by the Law with 50K cash on him. He was going to buy product for his business, tree, shrubs, plants, ect. The cop did not believe the mans story and took the cash. Three years later the man was still fighting to get his cash back.
I think it was a story on 60 Minutes.
I don't like drugs and have been passing drug tests since I was 19 but some of the heavy handed War on drugs tactics go way to far. Common since is not wide spread in our legal system.

Since when is being "fishy" grounds to have $23K taken from you? I could've been saving it since I was 6, I don't see why it should matter how I got the money unless they can somehow prove I'm guilty of committing a crime to get the money. I know people who have paid for brand new cars with money orders (which was originally cash that the bank was nice enough to charge $5 to turn it into a single sheet of paper).

The supervisor mentioned here was the supervisor of the officers. That sup refused to look at income statements of the driver proving the money was his.

One thing that nobody has pointed out here is something I have seen quite a bit of. Im not trying to be stereotypical or anything....but from what I have seen personally over the past 10 or so years is that a good chunk of hispanic workers and families do not use banks. They take and cash their checks or get paid in cash and keep the $$ with them or at home. Out here in WY, we have lots of hispanic workers in the oil fields. On any given day, I can go to the grocery store and see a long line of workers at the Western Union spot, sending money somewhere.

Some of you are so ridiculous. You're making statements of fact based on a brief article in a newspaper. That should be your clue that something isn't right in the first place...it appeared in a newspaper.

There's obviously more to this story than you're reading in this forum. The agents felt they had a good reason to search the truck. That's within their authority. I would also be suspicious of someone who carries tens of thousands of dollars on them using the excuse they don't trust banks. That's weak and a big red flag.
As for those claiming he should get $1 million or even $1 billion in damages...you live in a fantasy world.

leaving laredo, they ask to search my truck

i say NO

every time

they get the dogs, he skirts around the truck, i go on my way

where is the freedom that the troops are fighting for that a man cannot carry his own money with him? i heard that there is a law about how much cash and how much gold you may possess at any one time

i am not sure, so i wont even try to quote it, but bottom line, we have giving Law Enforcement Officers such a high status, its almost criminal to question them (ever watch COPS)

now these same people who will bash you in the head, or ransack your home, once they are given orders, they are the first line of protection to the powers that be

so keep on sucking up to them, they only want more and more power, and take all we relinquish
