It's articles like this that ultimately bring more government oversight down on truckers... yes, it's a tragedy that the subject of the article lost his family - but the writer points out that between 2009 and 2012 there was an increase in accidents... about the same time FMCSA started CSA?

What exactly changed? The regulations that the CSA covers have been around forever... the fact that they are adding up all of the violations and making them actually mean something is the only new thing on the horizon.
drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
What's your point? You have tons of idiots who don't respect their 80000 pound missile going down the highway. Who are not paying attention. Driving 2fast 2 furious. And it's only a matter if time b4 some clown mow's you down.
drvrtech77 and dog-c Thank this. -
Nothing to do with csa it has to do with the stupid 14 hour running clock on elogs.

The example NBC uses to start their story was from 2006:

The ( especially local ) media accepts advertising dollars from Ambulance chasing Big truck accident lawyers, Nothing new here, Move on.

There's really no solution... and more government intervention, rules / regulations, trucks with automatic brakes, stricter HOS, cameras, etc., won't fix the problem... and articles like this fuel the fire, for all of that.
Everyone is in a hurry - climbing up the ### of the guy in front of them, like they're on a NASCAR track. People want everything NOW. They order it on the Internet tonight, and want it tomorrow. Cell phones are being used constantly while driving - text / talk... because they can't wait until they stop at a safe place. Truckers are trying to get the load picked up / delivered on time, while they deal with traffic jams, weather, delays, and go as much over the speed limit as possible... or their trucks will allow.
Every day, I see truck drivers climbing up someones ###, regardless of the road / weather conditions - ignoring any kind of safe following distance.
Truckers have been trained, they know the risks, and the majority are safe drivers. But there's no amount of regulation, that will change the habits / behavior of bad drivers - they're everywhere."semi" retired, 77smartin, irishmountainman and 2 others Thank this. -
The media also fails to show that in car/truck accidents, 78% of the time , the same vehicle is at fault. No sense in the media posting any REAL facts.
The media never reports about the accident where the 4 wheeler forces a big truck off the road, killing the driver and destroying the truck and the 4 wheeler doesn't have enough insurance to cover the expenses of destroyed truck or a family that has to money out of their pocket to bury their loved one.
The media reports about a truck, tired and has an accident, what they don't report is that state closed all it's rest areas because they said they didn't have the money, yet has toll roads taking in money hand over fist and millions of dollars of road money is spent on bike trials few people use.
Tired of the trucker being the bad guy, let's park it and let the public starve.Last edited: Jan 19, 2015
Shaggy Thanks this. -
Smh it's the media's fault.
So it was the media driving thAt log truck today trying to run me off the road. And if possible the 4 wheelers who seemed to maintain their lane. Even though the (media) was riding the zipper.
The media pulling that flatbed while speeding and tailgating the 4 wheeler through town. Sure is lucky the 4 wheeler didn't have to make a turn. The media sure is smart. I guess they can read minds. -
