Unless someone invents a computer with AI ,I can't see an autonomous vehicle without a person in the vehicle.Having said that I wouldn't mind switching on the autopilot so I could get some reading done while on some of the long hauls.:biggrin_25520:

i'm kind of wondering a few things, the biggest being paid, if you're sitting there reading a book making 30CPM then you're getting paid to do nothing, no company would allow that? or will it be not paid unless you're physically driving

The truck will drive itself down the open road and be controlled by a drone operator sitting behind a desk when necessary = have you been practicing your X-Box/PlayStation games? That's the skills a future "truck driver" will need.

We already have robots running around hospitals and other buildings delivering things like mail/packages and soon will be delivering even food & medicine right to patients bedsides. These drones can navigate any building including using elevators and have sensors where they always know what's around them and can stop/reroute themselves whenever necessary. Other businesses already use robots that pick orders etc. and it will be the same with cars/trucks on the road not needing an operator and like I mentioned, when and if an operator is needed they can take control via remote from behind their desks in the central operations center.

I might be wrong, but I think that's further than ten years away. On a large scale, anyway, Google cars and Amazon drones notwithstanding. Just gotta keep an eye on developments as they occur.

I agree. There are many other things that will happen way before trucks become totally automated. The first automated car is still 5 years away. This is just a prototype. Freight transport is much more complicated. Yes maybe in the future, but 10 years is way off.

There may come a day, when trucks have auto pilot, there already testing a truck by Mercedes, but it will not replace the drivers, computers programs can fail, can you imagine if the computer fails and no one in the truck? There are factory's that have automated machines, but they still have employees there to make sure things run smoothly, or in case machine computer fails.

I remember reading about that, got a million dollars and a new Winnebago, from what I understand, Winnebago ended up putting in the owners Manuel, you can not leave drivers seat while set on cruise
