Senate votes to block funding for cross-border program
Senate votes to block funding for cross-border program
9/12/07
http://www.etrucker.com/apps/news/article.asp?id=63137The U.S. Senate on Tuesday, Sept. 11, approved a measure that would bar the Department of Transportation from spending money on a pilot program giving Mexican trucks access to U.S. highways, just days after the program began. The proposal is part of a $106 billion transportation and housing spending bill that the Senate hopes to vote on as soon as today, Sept. 12.
The House-passed version of the transportation funding bill (H.R. 3074) includes a similar, but not identical, provision. Given overwhelming support for those provisions in both the House and Senate, final adoption of a prohibition in the final transportation appropriations bill seems highly likely. But the Bush administration also might seek to water down the provision to allow a cross-border program to continue with limitations on scope or duration. continues..................

Yeah, he'll try. But with a 74-24 vote, the Senate will take that veto as an insult to them and to the will of the American people, and they have almost enough to over ride that veto now. All we need are a few more Senators people! Keep writing!! Keep making the phone calls! Keep making the noise and the pressure ON!!!

I am not positive, but I swear I heard that the House voted unanimous this morning with the Senate for this. Also adding to it that if Bush veto's it he will also at the same time be vetoing the money that is set for those Interstates to get updated and such. Again I am not sure on this though.
Perhaps CyberGal will find it out for sure.

Right, not sure if you are directing that at me, but I was referring to the House of Representatives, not the Senate. Sorry if I was unclear. I meant to say that I heard the House voted unanimous, "agreeing" with the Senate who voted earlier this week, and of course they were not unanimous.

I guess they changed their minds. I can't answer that one. But All but one of those Senators are from the northeast. I wonder why that is? (Not attempting to be sarcastic).
