99 thru California, especially in and around Fresno is being patrolled HOT AND HEAVY! From Selma, all the way to Madera. Hubby just called and asked me to post this for you!

Yeah, the old CA99 (CA's main N-S route B4 I-5) has a large density of population along it, esp from Fresno to Modesto! Madera has a Pilot and Ripon has Flying J as 'major' truck stops. I dont like driving it and only do so when have a PU/Delvry in the cities along it---otherwise, it's I-5 all the way, N to S! It is hilly, winding, many ent/ext ramps and lots of merging traffic!! Also, some of the worst accidents that I have seen (or heard about on the CB to avoid!) have been along CA99!!

All that said, I can see why it is patrolled so heavily and I my self run it at 62+ mph, but usually in the right lane! Many local and CA truckers run it, and so there are many 'truck-related' (not necessarily truck caused!!) accidents along it!!

There have been alot of accidents along this route in the last few weeks, especially in the construction zones. Take it easy on this route folks.

Jam, I HATE taking 99 anywhere! I usually take "local" roads... if I have to go to Fresno, I go all the way out to Ave 400 and then up Golden State! And Golden State is one of the most beat up old roads you can find! Harder on the car, easier on the nerves!

I hate 99 as a four-wheeler! It is so full of trucks and stupid moron who don't know how to drive. I do everything that I can to avoid 99.

I drive the 99 once a week from Bakersfield to Fresburg and you're sure right about the bears. Just got a ticket two weeks ago for 64 in a 55, plus I was also ticketed for being in the hammer lane. (was passing a motorhome that was going 'bout 45 or so and then got bull-headed and tried to pass another truck). Guess what? They fixed their airplane...
