Cops want overweight trucks out of town

Cops want overweight trucks out of town

10/1/07
Colorado Springs Gazette, CO
Quote:

There’s a problem at the base of Monument Hill: Too many buckets of bolts carrying fat loads are running skinny roads to avoid the chicken coop.

That’s corny trucker/CB radio slang for a not-so-corny problem besetting Monument and Palmer Lake: Too many overweight semitrailer trucks are driving through the towns to avoid the weigh stations on Interstate 25.

And police in Monument and Palmer Lake are getting fed up. They’re looking to hand out, in trucker lingo, some “green stamps” — or fines — to the scofflaws.

Monument Police Chief Jake Shirk said last week he recently sent one of his 14 officers to an intensive, 80-hour course by the Colorado State Patrol so he would have the expertise to stop and inspect such trucks. Palmer Lake will send one of its four officers to the same motor-carrier course in October.

Shirk said southbound trucks often exit at County Line Road and come down Colorado Highway 105 through Palmer Lake, or drive down Beacon Light Road, which parallels I-25 and passes right behind the weigh station. Northbound trucks often get off at Baptist Road, head east and then turn north onto Colorado Highway 83.

Cool

He better send them down to the hardware store to buy a set of scales too.

You can't just announce that trucks are over weight. You have to prove it LOL.

I used hwy 83 once to avoid the scale when I was 8000 lbs over weight. Was not my fault the shipper had no clue what they were doing.
I loaded in the middle of nowhere with 2 hrs one way to the closest truck scale.
