Horizon truckers oppose plan for parking ordinance

Horizon truckers oppose plan for parking ordinance
10/16/07
El Paso Times, TX -
Quote:
An effort to stop Horizon City residents from parking tractor-trailer rigs in neighborhoods was met with staunch resistance from truck drivers and recreational vehicle owners at last week's Socorro council meeting.
Following the city of Socorro's lead to ban truck drivers from parking rigs in residential areas, Alderwoman Renee Shufeldt proposed an amendment to a current city parking ordinance to restrict tractor-trailer rigs more significantly.
The proposal was met with dozens of truck drivers on Tuesday streaming into a filled-to-capacity City Hall, urging City Council to reconsider.
Dawn Post, a Horizon City resident whose husband is the owner-operator of a truck, said the current city ordinance simply needs to be enforced.
Horizon City several years ago passed an ordinance requiring big rigs and recreational vehicles be parked on concrete slabs, which cost some property owners thousands of dollars. A code compliance officer from Horizon said they've issued no citations for big rigs illegally parked in residential areas.

That's logical. There are no apparent violations of the current law, so that means there is a problem that requires a new law.
