I agree, let everyone carry, then if it turns into the OK Corral then the good guys win.

just my personal opinion
Personally I think all truckers that have a carry permit ought to have one. Not only for this type situation, but some of the truck stops and rest areas I've seen, I wouldn't feel safe at night (or day) with out something in the truck with me. Who's to tell me I can't protect me home on the road?

protection for hazmat etc.

It would certainly seem to be logical to allow some drivers to carry, probably why it won't happen. It seems stupid to do a background check on a driver then leave him/her exposed to this kind of crap. Think the truck-jacker had a background check? License? The pilots on 911 didn't need a pilots license, only the opportunity. Unless you believe Bush did it.

I'm not even a conservative and it seems like common sense that a person carrying hazmat material or things like alcohol or tabbacco should be able to use deadly force (if necessary) to protect themselves and their cargo. For that matter, no matter what cargo you're carrying, the dollar value of it will be so high that you should still be able to carry a firearm. But hey, who am I to say what is right and what's wrong, I'm a regular person not a politician...

That makes me think of the 880-Space Iowa 80 in Walcott IA....880 Guns going off at 3 AM cuz someone tried to break into someone's rig.

for the time being while i sleep i have a large 'survival knife' if someone trys to come in my rig while im sleepin.. im swinging. not cuz they tired to steal my #### but cuz they woke me up early and i gotta work the next day.. iggnorant %$##

i have a carry permit, when im home i carry my beretta with me at all times. would be helpful to carry it on the road toothousands of dollars worth of cargo.. shady neighborhoods, terrorisum. but like yall said if it makes sense.. they wont do it

Being a Conservative doesn't make a difference when it comes to defending your life. If most Libs would get their head out of the sand about guns and self-defense and take a look at the real world around them, they would look at things differently. Alot of libs I know just spout off and believe the No Guns - No Violence for any reason rule, because their friends, self appointed leaders and peers do the same thing. Every lib I know changed his tune when he or his family was violently attacked, then all of a sudden the world looks alot different and they decide they need a gun and training. Your political beliefs have very little to do with self preservation when bad things happen. The problem is, many libs have never had violence happen to them, so they spout off the no guns, no violence garbage and tell us we should be the same and give up our gun rights, when we know differently. If criminals or terrorists knew that just 50% of all truckers carried or had one with them, crimes against truckers would be at a new all time low.

I'm a Canadian and w're not as "into" guns as the Americans are (hand guns) but what about tazers? Then no one gets killed (hopefully) but you protect yourself and your stuff and the bad guy goes to the police. ???? It's a thought...
