Most of those pulloffs are so narrow that your butt hangs into the traffic lane when you're putting on the left side chains. Also, most of 'em are dark as pitch. They've installed two or three new ones this fall, they're also so dark that you have to use your flashlight to see.

Colorado sure could take some lessons from California regarding wide, well lit chain up areas. Unfortunately CDOT seems to be managed by fools who don't even have the sense to invest in enough equipment to keep either of the passes clear.

So now, under pressure from the ski "industry", they do a half-azzed job of installing a few more pulloffs, double the fine for getting stuck and call it good. SO TYPICAL FOR COLORADO!!! I have a better idea: close the d#^*n ski areas during heavy storms and keep the idiot four wheelers and their SUVs off the mountain! I go over these hills once a week and I wonder, How many more drivers have to die because of this unnecessary danger just so the Yuppies can go play in the snow?

Wow, do my eyes deceive me, someone is saying that California does something right? Let me mark this day on the calendar.

It must mean the end is near, California doing something right. Of course half the state is burning to the ground, so I guess everything is normal.

I-70 is a joke. Always seems to be people getting killed in really dumb ways on that stretch of interstate.

California, especially Southern Cal does PLENTY right when it comes to traffic management. What helps matters even more is the high skill level of most Southern California drivers, in spite of their reputation as being crazies . I'm not willing to say as much for Northern California drivers, however. There seems to be a distinct difference in as much as the Northern folks seem more hesitant and unable to make up their minds where they intend to go and they don't signal a good deal of the time. I find it considerably more relaxing to drive in S. Cal.
Back to Colorado idiocies: After living here 27 years I shouldn't be surprised by the level of incompetence in this state's government. After all, this is a state that built an airport costing close to six billion dollars with an access parkway twenty three miles long and still can't manage to find the resources or technology to keep either one clear of snow during or after even a moderate storm! I mean really, it does snow here now and then! (LOL) I often wonder: Who in H#*l is in charge here?!?

I agree with rexbevans on both California and Colorado. I stopped in Denver/Indianapolis 500 and walked across the street to eat breakfast. I was almost hit by a car while I was in the cross-walk. I was shaken by the ordeal and sat down to read the news paper and first article I saw was about someone getting hit by a car while crossing the the street in a cross walk. After reading that is said "no ####". It is a beautiful state but my least favorite to drive in.
