Some drivers do ride the bumpers of cars, and do other stupid and unsafe things. This cannot be argued.
Car drivers do not respect us at all. I've found that the right turn signal is almost magical. All I have to do is turn it on, and cars will start speeding up as I am trying to make the transition into the right lane. They don't respect the fact that this is the most dangerous part of a truck to pass, and yet they pass it while the truck drivers are making a lane change? Don't even get me started about car drivers......
I think that in order for anyone to have a licenses, car and truck drivers alike..... they should all learn the Smith System of driving.
I think most truck drivers have already had to learn that via company policies. Why don't you as a car driver look into that, and then maybe your daughter won't be as scared.
You are on the road where YOU place yourself. Remember that. If you're frequently having to go off the road due to truck traffic, why is that? It sounds to me that you don't respect space cushions, and do not understand blind spots, or the HUGE difference it takes for a truck to stop compared to a car.
You need to find a truckdriver willing to take you otr for a few days, and then you'll be able to understand, and see that it's more than likely not the truckers fault that you're having to go off the road. You're placing yourself in bad sititions.
I'm not trying to sound like a smart ###, but I have an idea..... maybe if you don't listen to what all I have said, then maybe this will help..... go to the store, and buy a cb...... Channel 19 is the truckers channel. The next time you're going to pass a truck when he's making a transition into another lane.... Get on that CB, and warn him.
Another thing....... this is something that really rattles me about four wheelers..... are you using your turn signals to warn the truckers what you plan on doing? MAKE SURE YOU USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS.
You're right, truckers don't own the road, but neither do car drivers. Always make sure you have an "out," and know where you are on the road at all time in relation to other vehicles, and your daughter will no longer be scared.
