Trucker finds missing womans body in Missouri

Edmond Sun, OK
Quote:
EDMOND — The body of an elderly Edmond woman missing since last Thursday was found at a truck stop in Norwood, Mo., Tuesday morning.

Wright County Sheriff Glenn Adler said a truck driver discovered the body of 77-year-old Betty Ledgerwood behind his trailer.

"Her car was parked beside the tractor-trailer unit, but her body was behind the trailer," he said.

Adler said there were no signs of foul play and Ledgerwood did not appear to be the victim of any crime.

"Her rings and jewelry were intact and her purse was still inside the car with money in it," he said. "The keys were still in the car. We think it was natural causes."

An autopsy was performed Wednesday in Springfield, Mo. The sheriff said an assistant to the coroner believed hyperthermia might have contributed to the woman's death.

The trucker told the sheriff he had been parked at the truck stop for several days and was performing a walk-around inspection when he discovered the woman's body.

Family members especially were concerned when Ledgerwood went missing because she suffered from dementia.
