Oil Prices Squeeze Local Trucker

BOSTON -- The price of oil reached a new record Thursday selling for more than $96 a barrel.

NewsCenter 5's Jack Harper reported Thursday that it not only effects the price you'll pay to heat your home, but it's also hurting businesses.

Diesel fuel was selling for about $3.49 per gallon at one local station. Kevin Wallace, of Chips Transport, said that the prices are squeezing him like never before.

"It's gone up about 43 cents in the last three months," Wallace said.

Wallace, who has been in business for 20 years, has about a dozen car carriers.

"My monthly figure in the last month has increased $5,200 -- just from one month," Wallace said.

Fuel for a run to Florida from Massachusetts could cost up to $3,000.

"We don't really know how we are going to handle it yet. We really don’t know. We are just waiting. No one even knew it was going to increase so fast," Wallace said. "I was talking to a guy in Florida and he said fuel could go up to $4 a gallon in the next year."

Be like every other business and pass the cost on to the shipper and receiver. If you can't do that your in the wrong pace and job.
