County drops charge against truck driver tasered by cops seven times
11/12/07
Quote:
Larry Works spoke with the ease of a guiltless man after he described being cleared of a felony charge that could have landed him behind bars for several years.
“The deal went through,” Works told Land Line as he and his wife, Chris, – both OOIDA members and team drivers – headed south to Yuma, AZ, to pick up a load Monday, Nov. 12.

The deal pre-empted a criminal trial centering on a truck driver being forcibly removed from his cab by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy hired by a motor carrier to watch truck stop parking spaces.
Works, from Holladay, TN, had been facing a felony charge of attempted assault on a law enforcement officer stemming from one day in July 2006 in which sheriff’s deputies reportedly shot him seven times with electric stun guns. Newton County Judge Kevin Selby agreed this past week to allow prosecutors to drop the felony charge if Works pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and accepted a sentence of two years probation.
According to Works, the incident started when he and his wife pulled into the Petro on Interstate 44 in Joplin, MO, in July 2006.

The couple waited to pull into a tractor-trailer space so they could park and walk their dog at 6:30 p.m. on July 29, 2006. Larry Works said he motioned to a man in a Newton County Sheriff’s Department patrol car that he wanted to walk his dog by a nearby tree, and the man leaned out of his driver’s side window and mouthed “no,” while pointing to other spaces in the parking lot.
Works told Land Line he obliged and tried to make a button-hook turn to the right, but as he pulled forward, the patrol car pulled forward and blocked him.

That original jack ### cop should be barred from ever holding even a renta cop position. He proved himself to be irrational and out of control.

Yeah, he just moved on to another county, that way there was no disciplinary action on his record. Which shows that the county that this happened in, helped him "escape" having this on his employment record.

I certainly hope that this guy wins his case against the county and gets reimbursed all his medical, court costs and attorney fees. And a nice little nest egg for his future would be nice.

This just sickens me. They are placing officers in positions now that NEED mental evaluations before they get that badge. There are just too many of them out there now that are NOT able to make good judgment calls anymore!!! This guy doesn't deserve his badge!

The cops have gone crazy with those tazers. Seems like every other day there's one in the news doing this to some one for ridiculous reasons.

that's all you hear about in the news when the word cop is mentioned anymore. Modern day Barney Fifes with their restless trigger fingers on their stun guns.

WOW, that is messed up! And, it is right down the road from me. Usually stuff like that doesn't happen in this area! Now that is weird.

What was he even subject to all of this for? Why did this ignoramus even decide to bother him in the first place?

Looks like the prick deputy was attempting to hold those parking spots open for high-security loads only (although hpw he would know is beyond me) and that is why he originally wanted the driver to move to another spot. Why he stopped him and then attacked that poor driver is beyond me.

And wonderful to see the 'Blue Wall of Silence' is doing so well; shift the a-hole to another county and wait for it to happen again. They would be better served by expending one bullet, and rid themselves of this renegade Robo-Cop wannabe.

There are good and bad in all groups. For every one bad one you hear about, you won't hear about the thousands (Or hudreds of thousands) of good hard working ones.
